PORTLAND --Police arrested a despondent man with a handgun who had parked near the Southeast Portland home of a former girlfriend he was stalking.
Friends of Timothy E. Anderson, 25, called Troutdale police Thursday afternoon after he sent them suicidal text messages and posts on Facebook. Anderson was also thought to be armed, Simpson said.
Portland police found his empty car at SE 11th Avenue and SE Ash Street and saw someone who matched his description sitting next to a house there.
Officers worked on a tactical plan to both prevent Anderson from driving away and to safely take him into custody, Simpson said. Anderson then started to walk to his car. Officers approached him and safely apprehended him about 7 p.m. He was carrying a loaded 9mm handgun.
After the arrest, police learned that Anderson was sitting near the home of an old girlfriend he had been stalking.
Anderson was accused of menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, coercion, possession of a loaded firearm, stalking and second-degree criminal mischief.
