GRESHAM – Police identified and arrested a suspect Saturday who rammed into a police car Friday night in Gresham.
Richard Overton, 40, was arrested with the help of the U.S Marshals near 160th Avenue and East Burnside Street just before 8 p.m.
At 10:45 p.m. on Friday, officers stopped a car when the driver sped off, ramming a police car, and almost hitting one of the officers at Northeast Couch Street and Northeast 167th Place.
At least one officer opened fire and may have taken out the suspect's back window.
Multnomah County sheriff's deputies spotted the car a few minutes later but had to abandon their pursuit.
Portland police then found the car near Southeast 158th Avenue and Southeast Stark Street.
Overton faces charges of attempted assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and felony eluding.
