GRESHAM – Investigators Tuesday identified a man suspected of attacking a mother and daughter at a Gresham apartment complex.
Police said 36-year-old Jason Joyner remained hospitalized in critical condition.
Saturday afternoon, two separate passers-by heard a woman yelling inside the apartment complex at 1212 NE Linden and came to help, according to detectives.
The mother and daughter told police they were leaving the apartment when they encountered the attacker, who forced his way in and said he was going to kill them. The two said he assaulted them and ransacked the apartment. The mother was calling 9-1-1 when he came back to attack them again.
Good Samaritans Michael Lieberman and Chauncey Brown said they got there to find the 40-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter being attacked by a man. Brown and Lieberman subdued the attacker, who lost consciousness during the struggle, police said.
Joyner has criminal records in Texas and Michigan, police said.
Doctors told police they had no reason to think Joyner was hurt when he was subdued, and it was unknown if he had a previous medical condition.
