GRESHAM, Ore. – The latest issue of Esquire Magazine featured more than the latest fashion trends. It also included a familiar face in local politics – Gresham mayor Shane Bemis.

Bemis was included in the article “Age of the Mayor,” which profiled seven mayors across the country who have made significant improvements in their cities.

Bemis was credited with enabling more than 140 small business to open in three years by waving fees if they moved into previously vacant spaces, replacing Gresham’s streetlights with energy-efficient LED bulbs and owning Bocelli’s Ristorante.

Julian Castro, mayor of San Antonio, was first on the list for creating a pre-K program for low-income children. The article also featured the mayors of Philadelphia, Ashville, Houston, Lancaster, Calif. and Jackson, Tenn.
