EUGENE, Ore. -- University of Oregon's LaMichael James held an impromptu Twitter scavenger hunt Sunday, starting with a pair of shoes and leading to the UO baseball game.
The hunt started Sunday morning with the tweet, "I think ima give these away... Any1 wear a sz 11?" The post was accompanied by a photo of the shoes James planned to give away (pictured, above) and was quickly followed by another post saying he would also give some sandals away.
James said he was going to put the items somewhere on campus and he would sign them. And he didn't want anything in return, except a tweet to let him know somebody had found them. Soon he sent out a picture of some signed blue jeans that he was adding to the mix.
Within 45 minutes, UO Sports Information Director Andy McNamara (@McNamaraUO) was tweeting along with James, posting, "Sounds like @LaMichaelJames scavenger hunt is ON. Should be a lot of people scrambling & searching in Eugene today."
The two led followers to PK Park, where a Ducks baseball game was under way, and then started dropping hints like, "I'll be tweeting a photo of someone holding an LMJ item. Find that person at PK Park & it's yours."
Another hint from James, "In order to live in a healthy fresh environment we must recycle!!!!," led one lucky fan to a signed program.
McNamara then announced a signed Rose Bowl polo shirt and a signed Ducks Football shirt were also hidden on campus.
All of the items were found over the next few hours, but James tweeted that the fun was far from over.
"Hopefully everyone got their LmJ gear today," he announced. "Today was very simple. But it will get a lot harder I promise, so be prepared."
