EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A 24-year-old Cottage Grove man faces charges including attempted aggravated murder as a result of a struggle with a police officer.
The Eugene Register-Guard reports that Ronald Dale Obannon has been indicted and is scheduled for arraignment Thursday.
According to the indictment handed up last week Obannon was wanted for violating probation on a domestic assault conviction and was riding a bicycle on Jan. 16 when Cottage Grove police officer Conrad Gagner stopped him.
Police said the two struggled, Obannon pulled a .22-caliber handgun, the officer pushed it away, and it fired, hitting Obannon in the hand.
The attempted aggravated murder charge carries a mandatory 10-year sentence with no provision for early release.
