EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- A woman who pleaded guilty in the kidnapping and murder of a Eugene, Ore., man last year has been sentenced to life in prison with a chance for parole after 30 years.

The Register-Guard reported Thursday that 19-year-old Mercedes Leeann Crabtree said in court she helped with the crimes because another suspect had threatened her life.

She pleaded guilty last week to murder, kidnapping and bank robbery in the Aug. 3 killing of Celestino Gutierrez.

The robbery was at a bank in Mapleton and followed the killing.

Prosecutor David Schwartz says none of the participants knew Gutierrez but targeted him to obtain a getaway car for the robbery.

Two men remain in the Lane County Jail awaiting trial on similar charges in connection with the crimes.
