EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Police have charged seven residents of a home near the University of Oregon with violating a new Eugene law that targets the hosts of unruly parties.

The Register-Guard reports (http://bit.ly/Z8dlXk ) they are the first to run afoul of the "social host" law approved by the city council in January.

Police say about 100 people attended the Monday night "pinning party" to celebrate a relationship between a fraternity member and sorority member.

Officers responding to noise complaints found a highly intoxicated 19-year-old unconscious. He was treated at a hospital. Police ticketed four people for being minors in possession of alcohol.

The seven accused of violating the social host law could be fined up to $1,000 in Eugene Municipal Court.
