FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) — The Defense Department says two Fort Carson soldiers from Colorado and Baker City Oregon have been killed in Afghanistan.
The Pentagon said Tuesday that 25-year-old Sgt. Christopher J. Birdwell of Windsor, Colo., and 21-year-old Spc. Mabry J. Anders of Baker City, Ore., died Monday in Kabul from injuries they suffered from enemy small-arms fire.
NATO said two U.S. soldiers were shot and killed by an Afghan soldier Monday. An Afghan military spokesman said it was accidental. It wasn't immediately clear if that was the shooting that killed Birdwell and Anders
Both were assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, part of Fort Carson's 4th Infantry Division.
Birdwell was on his third deployment, all to Afghanistan. Anders was on his first deployment.
Both were awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart posthumously.
