HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. – A Gresham man was arrested Saturday in Happy Valley after carjacking a man at knifepoint, deputies said.

Around 4 p.m., a driver heading down Sunnyside Road just off Highway 212 slowed down to drive around a man standing in the road.

The man, later identified as 33-year-old Ramon Gonzalez, then leaped into the back seat of the car, pulled out a knife, and told the driver to empty his pockets, said Sgt. Dan Kraus with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver then hit Gonzalez with a metal thermos. Gonzalez dropped his knife, grabbed the driver’s license and crawled out the back window because the back doors were child locked, Kraus said.

Deputies, police, and a K-9 unit searched for Gonzalez for almost an hour and then spotted him getting into a car driven by a woman who turned out to be his wife.

Neighbors helped police find Gonzalez after reporting a suspicious man was knocking on doors in the neighborhood. Gonzalez was booked in the Clackamas County Jail for first-degree robbery.
