TIGARD -- Football fans at Tigard High School remembered a youth football and baseball coach who died in a crash on the Willamette River last week.

People in attendance Friday gave a round of applause for Eryk Simmons, who died after two personal watercraft crashed in the Willamette River in West Linn.

They also took up a collection to help support his family.

“For the size of the man he was, as large lineman football player, most gentle kind man wonderful with children and knew how to coach and knew how to get the kids to understand what to do,” said Dylan Boyd who coached with Simmons.

Simmons leaves behind a wife and two sons.
