Newport, Ore. -- Workers on Sunday removed the final section of the Japanese dock that washed ashore on the Oregon coast last June.

The final water-logged weight of the dock was nearly 188 tons, which was heavier than earlier estimates.

Late Thursday, crews with Ballard Diving & Salvage were finally able to cut the first of section off of the dock. They were planning to haul it away on a flat bed trailer but the chunk was too heavy for the truck.

Crews had been working from sun-up to sun-down to try to cut the concrete and steel structure into four sections. Even during high tide, when the dock was surrounded by water, the work continued, just with life jackets.

The dock had been a local attraction for the past two months with people visiting Agate Beach to see the massive piece of debris from last year's tsunami in Japan.
