ASTORIA -- Police report that a man tried to pull a young girl into a bathroom Thursday at the Astoria Library.

He was sitting at a computer terminal when he started to gesture at the 12-year-old, police said. He then walked by her and grabbed her wrist.

The girl pulled away and told him to go away. He continued to gesture at her to follow him to the bathroom. She managed to get the attention of a friend and a librarian.

Joseph W. Posada, 45, was arrested on accusations of harassment, first-degree attempted kidnapping and disorderly conduct.

Police praised the girl for reacting properly. At the first sign of trouble, she immediately sought out help from others and reported what had happened to her.
