REDMOND – A woman who was keeping the books for a Redmond area business allegedly embezzled over $227,000 and then tried to fake her own death, police said.

On Friday, 36-year-old Christine Harris was arrested in Prineville and indicted by a Deschutes County grand jury on theft and forgery charges.

Harris worked as a bookkeeper for Udi Corporation in Redmond from 2009 to Sept. 4 2012, the day before she faked her own death, police said.

Harris faked her death by sending an email to her employer in her mother’s name, which said Harris had died. Police started investigating after the company’s new bookkeeper discovered the money was missing, police said.

Harris was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail pending an appearance in court.
