SISTERS, Ore. -- A wildfire burning near Sisters has jumped a containment line and grown to nearly 19 square miles, and crews expect it to continue growing on Saturday.

Officials closed part of the Pacific Crest Trail for the safety of firefighters and hikers, and they warn that heavy smoke could cause respiratory problems from some people.

The Deschutes County Sheriff's office is warning residents of Crossroads, Edgington/Remuda and south Sisters to be prepared to leave at a moments notice.

Crews worked overnight to burn off fire fuel and establish a new containment line before fire-friendly weather returned on Saturday.

Higher temperatures and lower humidity led to fire expansion to the north and south on Friday. Clouds created by the fire slightly increased moisture in the evening and dampened the fire overnight.

The blaze was 10 percent contained.
