BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Four elementary schools in the Beaverton School District will be among the first in Oregon to begin seismic upgrades.
The first school to get a portion of the the Oregon Emergency Management Seismic Rehabilitation Grant of $803,000 was McKay Elementary on Tuesday.
Seismic work will also be completed this summer at Cooper Mt., Elmonica, and Oak Hills elementary schools. The seismic improvements involve roof strengthening and improvement to roof and wall connections.
"This generous grant provides our district with the needed capital to reinforce four of our elementary schools to withstand a seismic event," Beaverton Superintendent Jerry Colonna said.
