BEAVERTON -- A father was arrested by Beaverton police after the death of his 7-week-old son.
Robert Myers, 26, has been accused of murder. He was taken into custody Thursday after a second interview with police about the incident, said Beaverton police spokesman Mike Rowe.
Police were dispatched to the King's Court Apartment on Southwest Estuary Drive late Wednesday night for a call about a child not breathing, Rowe said.
Aden Myers was taken to the hospital and placed on life support. He was pronounced dead a day later.
Robert Myers first told police that he had fallen asleep on the couch next to Aden, and when he woke up, the baby was unresponsive. He called 911, Rowe said.
At the hospital, detectives spoke with Robert Myers and the boy's mother, 27-year-old Stephanie Baker. After further, unspecified investigation, detectives spoke a second time with Myers, Rowe said.
Police said in a press conference Friday afternoon, they discovered a broken bone in the baby's chest, which led them to question Myers for a second time and eventually arrest him.
KGW reporter Katherine Cook spoke to Baker Friday afternoon.
"Robert would never hurt my baby. He would never hurt my child," Baker said.
Based on statements made in the second interview, Myers was arrested for murder, Rowe said.
An autopsy will be performed Saturday morning.
