BEAVERTON, Ore. -- A fire outside a Beaverton apartment building Saturday destroyed four cars and damaged six more, police said.
Just after 2 a.m. several 911 callers reported a fire in the carport outside Hallwood Apartments, in the 7500 block of SW Hall Boulevard, according to Cassandra Ulven of Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.
"The blazing carport was threatening the three-story building nearby," Ulven said. "Fire crews split up to evacuate residents and contain the mass of burning vehicles and the collapsing roof."
The carport and four cars were destroyed. Six cars were damaged, as was the siding of the apartment building. None of the residents were injured or displaced.
No damage estimate was available. Investigators said the fire originated in a recycling and trash containment area, but the cause had not been determined.
