SUFFERN, N.Y. (AP) — A judge has convicted an influential New York City television newsman of attempting to assault his wife.
The Rockland County district attorney's office issued a one-sentence statement Friday saying Dominic Carter was found guilty of third-degree attempted assault.
Carter was the political anchor on the cable news channel NY1. He had been accused of the more serious charge of third-degree assault.
His wife, Marilyn Carter, claimed last year he left her with a swollen lip, a cut ear and a bruised arm and leg. But she recanted her allegation on Oct. 29 during his trial.
That night NY1 said Dominic Carter had taken an indefinite leave of absence.
Defense lawyer Martin Gotkin says Carter maintains his innocence and is going to fight to vindicate himself.
