According to TripAdvisor, more than one-third of Americans planning to vacation this summer planned on doing so near home.
The free attractions considered "the top five" by the website were based on reviews, articles and experiences shared by travelers on TripAdvisor, according to a spokesperson, who also noted that local "staycations" helped boost the local economy because money spent stays in Portland.
