REDMOND, Ore. -- The man killed in a motorcycle crash on Highway 26 Friday was identified as the principal of a Redmond middle school, police said.
John Kevin Hartford, 54, was thrown from his motorcycle when it hit a guardrail near the Crook/Wheeler county line just before 5:30 p.m., according to Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.
Passing drivers found Hartford and performed emergency medical care until paramedics arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.
Hartford was the principal of Gregory Middle School, in the Redmond School District, Hastings said.
Investigators were working to determine the cause of the crash.
The school district planned to send out a notice Saturday afternoon.
