ST. HELENS, Ore. -- A man shot by St. Helens police during an altercation Saturday was identified Monday.
Police got a call early Saturday morning about a man who was upset and armed with a knife in front of the Oak Meadows Best Western, said St. Helens Police Chief Terry Moss.
Officers at the scene said when they spoke with the suspect, 60-year-old Rogelio Rodriguez Martinez, he lunged at officers with the knife in his hand.
They tried using a Taser to stop him, but he kept coming. So officers shot him, Moss said.
Martinez was taken to a Portland hospital, where he was listed Monday in critical condition.
Police are investigating the shooting and information about the officers involved was expected to be released later in the week.
