FOREST Grove, Ore. -- A van exploded outside a home near Forest Grove Sunday morning, blowing out the windows and doors of some nearby buildings, police said.
Firefighters responded just before 7 a.m. to the report of a fire in the 17700 block of Northwest Glenwood Lane, according to Matt Johnston of Forest Grove Fire & Rescue.
At the scene crews found a full-sized van that had exploded.
"The explosion was powerful enough to cause major damage to the van," Johnston said. "It also blew out many windows and doors of nearby buildings, and knocked many items off of the shelves in those buildings."
The van had been converted into a recreational vehicle and the explosion was apparently caused by a faulty propane line, Johnston said.
