CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A Eugene man has pleaded not guilty to accusations he planned to kill three members of a Philomath family.
The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports the plans were cut short when a Benton County deputy pulled over 33-year-old Anthony Joseph Rodrigues Jr. for impaired driving.
Rodrigues is accused of attempted murder and other charges. He appeared in court Monday.
The sheriff's office says a deputy stopped Rodrigues early Saturday on Highway 99W.
The deputy reported Rodrigues was sobbing.
The deputy says Rodrigues told of smoking methamphetamine, buying a handgun at a pawn shop, hearing voices in his head and plotting first kill his father, who wasn't at home, and then a Philomath couple and their son.
Authorities wouldn't describe Rodrigues' relationship to the family.
