VENETA, Ore. (AP) -- A Lane County sheriff's spokesman says a husband and wife have been found dead in the bedroom of their home in the small community of Veneta, Ore.
Sheriff's Sgt. Steve French says both the man and woman appeared to have been fatally shot. While detectives aren't sure what happened early Wednesday, French says they have no reason to believe anyone other than the couple was involved.
The Register-Guard reports that an apparently suicidal man at the home called 911 shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday, at about the same time nearby residents reported hearing what sounded like gunfire.
French says officers tried without success to contact the man, then entered the home and found the two bodies.
The spokesman identified the dead couple as 56-year-old Bradley Chauran and his 53-year-old wife Kelly Chauran.
Veneta is west of Eugene.
