MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- A 24-year-old man was arrested on allegations that he sexually assaulted three 13-year-old girls in his Milwaukie apartment, police said Tuesday.

Deputies with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said Brandon Murdock James met each of the girls on the Springwater Corridor trail and lured them back to his nearby apartment in the Heather Brae Commons, at 10303 SE Bell Rd., by promising them booze and marijuana. James would then handcuff the girls and sexually assault them.

While only three victims have come forward, investigators believe that number could grow, said Deputy Mark Nikolai.

On Wednesday afternoon, James made his first appearance in court. He was reportedly hired in the past to babysit children in the area, and deputies are concerned that some of those children may also have been victims of sexual assault.

On Wednesday, James' neighbors told KGW they would often see kids coming and going from his apartment.

"He just seemed like someone they could hang out with and run to and talk to about problems and I guess that was his way of luring them in," said neighbor Angelo Clark.

James was jailed on charges of unlawful sexual penetration, kidnapping, sex abuse and possession of child pornography. He's scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

Anyone with information about James or any potential victims was asked to call (503) 723-4949.
