PORTLAND -- A fundraiser Wednesday afternoon will help victims who lost their homes in last month’s 5-alarm fire in Northeast Portland.
The massive fire destroyed an apartment building under construction on Northeast Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. The fire also spread to several nearby homes and some residents lost everything they owned.

Theresa Jahangir is one of those residents. She had moved to Portland only two weeks before the fire destroyed her home.
"All the furniture, all the kitchen stuff, everything in the bathroom, most of the clothes" were lost, she said. And after that she said she had to fend off businesses that profit from personal tragedies.
"Be very careful of anyone that offers their help that seems to be providing a service," she learned.
But Portland firefighters have come together to help Jahangir and other victims of the fire. EaT Oyster Bar and the Portland Firefighters Association are sponsoring the “Five Alarm Rib Fundraiser.”
The fundraiser is open to the public and costs $18 per plate. Money raised will help the fire victims get back on their feet. The event runs from 4:30 until 8:00 p.m. at EaT Oyster Bar and Restaurant, 3808 N. Williams.
