VANCOUVER -- family and friends gathered Friday to remember a young musician who police say was killed by a drunk driver.

Charlie Heroux was almost home when a driver slammed into his truck near East 33rd and P streets in Vancouver.

Friends remember him as a happy go lucky guy that was always trying to make people smile.

Charlie’s father says he had just finished an apprenticeship for a new job and was looking forward to having a family of his own.

"He was very good on the guitar. He was just a free spirit. Everybody loved him. He never had an enemy in the world--just larger than life," Heroux’s father said.

The driver who caused the crash, 20-year-old Mark Gant, now faces several charges including vehicular homicide.
