LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) -- A 25-year-old construction worker who fell from a bridge this week remains in critical condition in a Washington state hospital.

The La Grande Observer reports Karl Willhite was working on construction of a wooden platform in La Grande on Wednesday when he fell from the Lower Perry Bridge and landed on rocks.

The Union County Sheriff's Office says Willhite was transported by air ambulance.

Willhite works for Oregon State Bridge Construction in Stayton, which was subcontracting with Oregon Mainline Paving for an Oregon Department of Transportation-funded project at the site of the accident.
