HILLSBORO, Ore. -- The Portland Bomb Squad was called to rural Washington County after someone found a pipe bomb in a field.

Just before 3 p.m., a Cornelius man told deputies he found the bomb in a field near Southwest Clark Hill Road and Southwest Long Road. Deputies determined the device was a legitimate pipe bomb and called in the bomb squad, said Sgt. Vance Stimler with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The bomb technician then detonated the device. Deputies do not know who left the bomb in the field and anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff’s office.
