PORTLAND -- A Bethany man is accused of raping a 22-year-old woman just 10 days after his release from jail on similar charges, detectives said.
Yusuf Sheikh-Nur, 28, sexually assaulted the woman in the Bethany Meadows apartment he shares with his mother, according to Sgt. Bob Ray of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Sheikh-Nur was also accused of engaging in unwanted sexual advances with other women just hours before the reported rape.
"He was approaching females," Ray said. "He'd ask for hugs or kisses and when they rejected his advances he would grab them, kiss them, and make inappropriate contact with them."
The news was especially disturbing to neighbor Vince Maloney, whose girlfriend is the same age as the alleged victim.
"Luckily I wasn't around when stuff was happening because that doesn't fly with me," Maloney said.
The allegations surfaced 10 days after Sheikh-Nur was released from jail. He had served nearly two months for several crimes, including sex abuse.
Sgt. Ray said police believe there may be more victims.
Sheikh-Nur is being held in the Washington County Jail on $3.1 million bail.
