TUALATIN, Ore. – A BMW driver who sped away from police Wednesday evening and crashed into a truck in Tualatin fled the scene on foot and is still wanted by police.
Just before 10 p.m., Tualatin police tried to stop the driver for a minor traffic violation, but the driver took off at “a high rate of speed,” said Lt. Greg Pickering with Tualatin police.
The officer stopped pursuing the BMW after realizing the danger of the situation. The driver continued to drive erratically for more than half a mile before crashing into a truck in the intersection of Southwest Boones Ferry Road and Southwest Avery Street, Pickering said.
After hitting the truck, the BMW then hit a utility pole and came to rest against a fence. When police arrived, they found the driver had taken off on foot.
The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers from multiple agencies, along with a K-9 unit, searched the area but were not able to find the driver, Pickering said.
The driver faces multiple felony charges including reckless driving, eluding officers, hit-and-run and assault.
