BEND, Ore. -- Two men were killed in a crash on Highway 20W, between Bend and Sisters, Saturday evening, police said.
A driver headed westbound near milepost 9 crossed the center line and crashed his sedan into an oncoming station wagon, according to Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.
The driver of the station wagon, 62-year-old Dean Hale of Bend, died at the scene. His wife was taken by air to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. They were both using safety restraints.
The driver of the sedan also died at the scene. He was not using safety restraints. Police said a witness was in the process of calling 911 when the crash happened, to report that the man had been driving erratically.
The highway was closed for about four hours during the investigation.
