EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Eugene, Ore., police say a 9-year-old girl reported that a strange man approached her and grabbed her arm as she stood at a drinking water fountain at her school. The girl says she was able to escape and the man ran off.
Police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin tells The Register-Guard (http://is.gd/Jnl7JL ) that the girl is "very credible."
The newspaper says the apparent abduction attempt Monday at Yujin Gakuen Japanese Immersion Elementary School came less than four weeks after another student who attends school at the north Eugene campus reported a similar incident. Police do not know whether the cases are related.
The school shares a building and campus with Corridor Alternative Elementary School.
Police searched unsuccessfully for the man on Monday.
McLaughlin says school officials and police are "on high alert."
