Evacuation order lifted for Breitenbush Hot Springs, cabins

KGW Sunrise forecast: 9-4-17

Update: The Level 3 evacuation was lifted Tuesday morning, Sept. 19 after steady rains lowered fire danger.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office issued the highest level evacuation order for the Breitenbush Community, north of Detroit, on Thursday afternoon.

The level 3 evacuation order, which means "go now," was issued as a result of the Little Devil Fire moving closer to the hot springs resort and 72 cabins in the area.

"These areas are no longer considered safe for occupation," a news release said.

Deputy sheriffs will be posting notices at residences and notifying building occupants that it is recommended they evacuate immediately.

The Little Devil Fire became active and grew to 1,885 acres on Wednesday and moved within 1 3/4 miles of the Breitenbush Hot Springs area.

The Breitenbush area has been at a level 2 evacuation level for several weeks, resulting in few residents remaining in the area.

"The intent of the evacuation is to notify those few remaining residents and message to those planning to come to the area to seek other options until the area is safe for return," the news release said.
