Pedestrian killed in Salem crash identified

SALEM, Ore. – A pedestrian killed in a crash in Salem Tuesday morning has been identified.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says 51-year-old Baxter Harrell, of Aumsville, was walking down the center line of Cordon Road Northeast when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle a little before 5 a.m.

Harrell’s family told the sheriff’s office that he left his home earlier in the evening for a walk. Deputies don’t know how he ended up so far away from his home or why he was walking in the middle of the road.

The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with investigators and no citations have been issued.
