Robbery suspect arrested after assaulting victim with his own shotgun

WOODLAND, Wash. -- A SWAT team was called in to arrest a man who robbed and assaulted a person before barricading himself inside a neighboring house on Sunday morning.

The suspect, 39-year-old Timothy R. Surrena, is being held at the Clark County Jail, facing charges of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and theft of a firearm.

At about 3 a.m. Sunday, a homeowner confronted Surrena outside his home at 4418 Northwest Hayes Road in Woodland, Washington. The suspect wrested a shotgun away from the homeowner and hit him in the head several times with the gun.

The suspect then ran from the house, fired several shots into the air and entered a neighboring residence at 4403 Northwest Hayes Road.

Police officers and a SWAT team surrounded the residence. The SWAT team was later able to take the suspect into custody.
