Mother killed, son injured after Amtrak train hits car in Camas

CAMAS, Wash. – A Vancouver mother was killed and her 14-year-old son was injured after a collision between an Amtrak train and a car in Camas on Tuesday morning.

Camas police said the train crashed into a small sedan at 10:30 a.m. near Southwest 5th Avenue and Viola, which is a private road that crosses the tracks. There are no lights or gates at the crossing, only stop signs.

The driver, 34-year-old Maria G. Gonzalez Torres, died at the scene. Her son was taken to a hospital.

The Amtrak train was heading for Vancouver and had 80 people onboard. No one was hurt.
