PORTLAND, Ore. -- Two 16-year-olds from Portland were killed in a crash on Interstate 5 near Interstate 205 early Friday morning.
The names of the boy and girl have not been released.
Emergency crews were called just before 2 a.m. to the crash involving a car and a semi truck in the northbound lanes of I-5 at milepost 289.
The driver of the car was attempting to pass the semi when the car hit the rear of the trailer, spun out of control and crashed into the truck, according to Oregon State Police Lt. Cari Boyd.
Speed was a factor in the crash, police said. Neither of the teens was wearing a seat belt.
Police initially reported the driver of the car was a 20-year-old man.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
