St. Johns Bridge closed after person climbs to top

PORTLAND, Ore. – Authorities closed the St. Johns Bridge during the Thursday afternoon commute after a person climbed to the top of span and threatened suicide, police said.

Officers established communication with the person shortly after 2 p.m..

Police called in air support to help with the incident, and said the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office River Patrol also responded to the scene.

There is no estimated time for when the bridge will reopen. Authorities say commuters should avoid the area.

KGW normally does not report on suicide attempts, but we are sharing this information due to the large traffic impact.
