Man dies after logging truck catches fire, crashes in southern Oregon

LAKEVIEW, Ore. -- A man died after a logging truck caught fire and crashed into another logging truck on Highway 140 east of Lakeview,

Douglas McClain, 60, of Lakeview was driving a 1956 Peterbilt logging truck westbound on Highway 140. The truck caught fire coming down the hill and crashed into the back of a 1979 Kenworth logging truck in front of it.

Both vehicles left the highway, spilling their loads of logs onto the road.

McClain was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Kenworth truck, 66-year-old Brenton Cannon, of Lakeview, was not injured and stayed at the scene to help.

Cannon was wearing his seatbelt, but Oregon State Police said they don't know if McClain was wearing his.

The highway was closed for about two hours before opening to one lane with a pilot car while the logs are removed from the road.
