Salem woman identified as driver found dead in car submerged in Willamette River

SALEM, Ore. -- A Salem woman has been identified as the driver found dead in a submerged car in the Willamette River near the Buena Vista Ferry ramp Tuesday night.

Deputies believe Anne Marie Rose, age 89, accidentally drove into the water at the entrance to the Buena Vista Ferry.

A ferry boat operator found the car around 8 p.m. and called the Marion County Sheriff's Office. Deputies and fire officials were unable to safely recover the car due to the fast current, cold weather and darkness.

Divers with Linn County Sheriff's Office dive team helped recover the person and car Wednesday morning around 8 a.m., according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
