Don't Shoot PDX, cyclists protest on Black Friday

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Hundreds of protesters converged in Portland's Pearl District on Black Friday.

Don't Shoot Portland protesters took to the streets as part of a planned "Not One Dime" #BlackLivesMatter Black Friday protest. Organizers said the demonstration was protesting capitalist culture along with Oregon's history of racism and injustice against communities of color and people with disabilities.

A second group, called PDX Bike Swarm, asked bicyclists to join the Don't Shoot Portland group at Northwest 13th Avenue and Everett Street Friday afternoon.

The protest began at 1 p.m. Both groups mingled on Friday afternoon during what some participants described as a block party. Police blocked the streets and directed traffic away from the demonstration.

Last year, Black Lives Matter protesters marched inside the Lloyd Center mall.
