Pregnant woman dies after being hit by car in Beaverton

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- A 37-year-old pregnant woman died Tuesday afternoon after she was struck by a car outside a parking lot in Beaverton.

The victim, Elena Velasquez-Pelico of Beaverton, was walking on the sidewalk in front of a business at 4265 Southwest Cedar Hills Boulevard in Beaverton when a car crossed the sidewalk and hit her, pushing her through a glass window, at about 1:43 p.m..

Police say the driver of the car, 37-year-old Suha Al Naisani, of Beaverton, mistakenly put the car in reverse and not drive before she attempted to pull out of the parking lot.

The victim was taken to a hospital with what were described at the time as non-life-threatening injuries. Her condition worsened while she was at the hospital and she died.

The driver stayed at the scene and has cooperated in the investigation.
