Khaliah Ali, daughter of Muhammad Ali, is partnering with Portland-based MiaDonna & Company to promote a more eco-friendly diamond.
MiaDonna creates diamonds in a lab, in hopes of ending the inhumane treatment of people that can be associated with diamond mines. Lab-grown diamonds are also more environmentally friendly. The company just created the world's largest man-made diamond at 6.28 carats.
For Ali, the fight is somewhat personal. Her father regained his heavyweight title from George Foreman during the historic 'Rumble in the Jungle' boxing match, which was held in Zaire (now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo). The DRC is one of the largest diamond producers in the world.
Ali and MiaDonna are also working together as part of The Greener Diamond Foundation to help children who are suffering in diamond-mining countries.
