Popular gorge shuttle service ends early due to Eagle Creek Fire

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eagle Creek Fire has forced the early shut down of a popular bus service that takes people from Portland to the Columbia River Gorge.

The Columbia Gorge Express was scheduled to continue to run through the weekend of Sept. 22-24. However, due to the 35,000-acre Eagle Creek Fire, the bus will not run again this year. Rides were also canceled last weekend as Interstate 84 has been closed since the fire began to spread on Sept. 4.

This summer, the bus provided 27,000 rides to gorge visitors. It makes stops at the Gateway Transit Center, Rooster Rock State Park and iconic Multnomah Falls.

The Oregon Department of Transportation said they may expand the service next year.
