TIGARD, Ore. – The man hit and killed by a car on Highway 99W Saturday evening has been identified as Peter Emery of Sherwood.
Emery, 27, was identified using fingerprint forensics, according to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
The collision occurred at around 7:40 p.m. at the corner of Highway 99W and SW Fischer Road, near the community of King City.
During the initial investigation, deputies learned that Emery, while crossing Highway 99W, was struck by a GMC pickup traveling northbound.
It was reported that Emery ran across the highway while northbound traffic had a green light. One vehicle braked heavily and was able to avoid striking him, but he was struck by the pickup in the next travel lane.
Bystanders performed CPR on Emery, who was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver stayed at the scene and was cooperating with investigators. The investigation is in its initial stages, but impairment and speed are not believed to be contributing factors.
