Woman struck by MAX train in East Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A woman was struck by a MAX train in East Portland Wednesday afternoon.

Police believe the woman intentionally stepped in the train's path.

The crash occurred near 143rd Avenue and East Burnside Street at around 4:15 p.m., according to police bureau spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson.

Medics took the woman to a Portland hospital. Her name was not immediately released.

Westbound MAX service will be affected for about an hour, and traffic on Burnside Street will also be impacted, Simpson said.

TriMet says shuttle buses are serving stations between Gateway Transit Center and Cleveland Avenue.
