Mother, daughter die in Highway 30 crash east of Astoria

ASTORIA, Ore. -- A mother and daughter died in a two-car crash Thursday morning on Highway 30 east of Astoria.

Police say at about 8:15 a.m., a sedan heading eastbound near milepost 94 lost control going around a corner and crossed the centerline. A pickup truck driving westbound struck the sedan on the passenger side.

The driver of the sedan, 38-year-old Sabrina J. Rainey, and her 14-year-old daughter, died at the scene. They were both from Astoria.

The driver of the truck, 31-year-old Jordan L. Waliezer, of Kelso, Washington, was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria for treatment of minor injuries.

Highway 30 was closed for 30 minutes before one alternating lane was opened. Both lanes of the highway opened at around 1 p.m.
