Nike founder and wife give $500 million to University of Oregon

Eugene, Ore. -- The founder of Nike is giving $500 million dollars to the University of Oregon, the biggest gift of its kind, ever.  Phil Knight and his wife are giving a half billion to expand science education.  The money will build three new buildings on the Eugene and support the program.

The big official announcement comes Tuesday morning at  8:45 on the university’s Facebook page.  

The university says the gift will fast track research at the U of O to help people have better lives. It is lead money for a billion dollars in investment over the next decade.

The university already has a webpage dedicated to the initiative.
